Robert Kubica zajął ostatnie, 17. miejsce w wyścigu Formuły 1 o Grand Prix Australii w Melbourne. Wygrał Fin Valtteri Bottas. Dla Polaka był to jednak szczególny wyścig. Powrócił do ścigania z najlepszymi po ośmiu latach przerwy i poważnej kontuzji.
W Melbourne drugi był obrońca tytułu Brytyjczyk Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), a na trzeciej pozycji uplasował się Holender Max Verstappen z Red Bulla.

Robert Kubica miał kłopoty już po starcie i musiał zjechać do pit stopu, aby wymienić skrzydło uszkodzone z powodu kolizji z Francuzem Pierre Gaslym z Red Bulla.
Drugi kierowca teamu Williams Brytyjczyk George Russell był wtedy 18.
Podczas wyścigu zapalił się samochód Carlosa Sainza. Był to koniec wyścigu dla tego kierowcy.
